What we do

The Churches' Network for Non-violence (CNNV) supports the aim of the Children Are Unbeatable! Alliance to give children the same protection from violence in the home as other family members.

We challenge the view that corporal punishment is a Biblical doctrine and believe that positive, non-violent discipline best models Christ's teachings.

We involve Christians of all denominations and people of all Faiths in activities and events.

We aim to work with others in forming a network of support, information and practical resources to assist people in churches and communities to promote positive, non-violent discipline.

"We believe violence that is within the law, as in the legal right of parents to use "reasonable" force in disciplining children violates children's right to equal protection under the law, as well as their physical, spiritual and emotional integrity. This view is grounded in the sacred respect that religious communities hold for every child"

Universal regard for children transcends religious and theological differences. It impels religious groups to join with others in rejecting all forms of violence and humiliating treatment of children, including corporal punishment". Coventry Charter for Children and Non-violence 2006

Children were of central importance in Christ's teaching about the new social order. When he spoke about children Jesus confirmed their status as human beings.

A major implication for Christians today and for the way we care for our children, is the personal example of Jesus, who in his teaching about the Kingdom focused on respect for children.
